Not looking forward to this – I live about 1 miles away!

and these F18’s are ‘screamingly’ noisy – and they frequently fly in pairs!

Navy fighter jets to conduct aircraft carrier training in Belle Chasse

F/A-18 Hornets of the Navy Reserve's Strike Fighter Squadron 204 prepare to launch from the Naval Air Station-Joint Reserve Base in Belle Chasse in January. VFA-204 pilots will be preparing for aircraft carrier qualifications at the air station starting Monday, meaning residents near the air station can expect increased flight operations, both day and night. The Navy is warning residents in the Belle Chasse and West Jefferson areas to expect increased flight operations at the Naval Air Station-Joint Reserve Base next week. Navy Reserve F/A-18 Hornet pilots will be preparing for mandated aircraft carrier landing qualifications, according to a statement Wednesday from the air station.

Residents may expect day and night operations that will include "touch-and-go" flights. The training begins Monday and is expected to last through Sept. 12, according to the air station.

Strike Fighter Squadron 204, known as the River Rattlers, is preparing to deploy to Norfolk, Va., in September, for qualifications aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt. The squadron has a two-fold mission:

a.. Be prepared to mobilize for wartime or other operations
b.. Take on the role as an adversary in aerial combat training exercises involving active-duty flying units.
The carrier qualifications are tied to VFA-204's reserve wartime mission. The squadron recently practiced its strike mission at Fort Polk in west-central Louisiana, where pilots dropped bombs on ground targets.

In the latter role, the squadron paints its Hornets in the colors of foreign fighter jets. At times, VFA-204 hosts units at the air station, most recently in January, when aviatorstraining to fly E/A-18 Growlers deployed to Belle Chasse. VFA-204 is the only F/A-18 squadron of its type left in the Navy.

The exercises overlap training underway at the air station involving U.S. Air Force pilots learning to fly the F-22 Raptors. The Louisiana Air National Guard's 159th Fighter Wing's 122nd Fighter Squadron is hosting the exercise.
