A New Orleans man died early Saturday after he accidentally shot himself while trying to repair his gun, authorities said. Dejuan Antoine, 26, died around 1:30 a.m. in the 1400 block of Elysian Fields Avenue, said John Gagliano, chief investigator for the Orleans Parish coroner's office.

A woman who was with Antoine at the time told investigators he was examining his gun because it wasn't functioning properly. The gun fired, and the bullet apparently struck an artery in Antoine's left l
