> V C Raamsukaesh,chief executive officer of Puducherry-based Vinbros and Co that entered into an agreement with the Mexican government to import highly-concentrated tequila to the Union Territory,was optimistic that the GIS tag for tequila will wipe out false products from the market in the country.The Punducherry firm dilutes the concentrated liquor and bottles it before selling the product under the brand name,Warehouse.The product is also registered in Mexico.
> S Ganeson,chief operating officer of Bangalore-based Marma Goa Inc which also imports tequila from Mexico,said it is a welcome move.The tequila sold here cannot be called Indian Tequila.The cactus used to make tequila is available only in Mexico and is unique in nature and flavour. 
> Naidu said tequila manufacturers in Mexico were anxious that their product should not be duplicated in other parts of the world and approached us to grant them the GI indication tag. 
> A GI is a name or sign used on certain products which mirrors a specific geographical location or origin.The use of a GI tag may act as a certification that the product possesses certain qualities,or enjoys a certain reputation,due to its geographical origin,and thus enhances its marketability.
