Of course politicians don't want to clean up the lobbying business, it is the system that is employed to make them very rich indeed.
To give you some idea of size of the Washington lobbying business, last year the 12,659 lobbyists spent $3,300,000,000 on 100 senators and 625 congress persons, which I think is about $4.5 million EACH.
Clearly the lesser ones didn't get much, however the really influential old hands would have got tens of millions if not more.
There is no chance that the folks who benefit by the lobbying system have the slightest interest in modifying it.
I don't know and can't be bothered to look, but it is more than likely that the subject of lobbying money has been considered by the us supreme court and declared a great idea! Just as they have lately said a person can contribute without limit to a political party or politicians campaign but not directly into his pocket. So we see in this presidential election billionaires "contributing" to mitt Romney to ensure Obama and his charitable ideas (read, socialist) cease and mitt can get back to making the rich richer.
This is what goes for democracy in the land of the free home of the brave...........
