Colin,

For much my post-MN working life, ie, 1960 onwards, and possibly before (though I can't say for sure), my thinking has been what I called "compartmentalised". I'd be thinking about something over breakfast, leave the house, and find the previous thoughts replaced by others. Onto the bus or into a car for a lift, and yet another set of thoughts - and so on. On arrival at work, this phenomenon would disappear until leaving time, when it would resume. In my late teens to early 20s I would walk home from Greenock of a Sunday night (about 6 miles), having missed the last bus, and fall into a train of thought. Often I would "waken" from it and find myself on the finishing straight with no recollection whatever of the miles between. It's comforting to know it's the doors to blame.

Hugh.
