Another such I read recently in a "reputable" paper, was telling us, vis a vis a misfortune suffered by a vessel, that the propellers had been switched off. I daresay that would have caused the engines to stop supplying steam to the boilers, resulting in the spronnicles falling into bilges.  And we all know what can happen when that starts.
