John,

Most of the friends and acquaintances that I mixed with in Spain had left the UK 10 or 15 years before the normal retirement age. They complain because they do not get all the perks, like winter fuel allowance etc if they left the UK before the perks been given, so it was the luck of the draw when you decided to leave UK.

What I called the old age pension is was what everybody called their National Health stamps (well they did in the shipyard that I worked in) and part of this was supposed to give you an old age pension at 65. Civil Service pensions are a much better deal and they got much better when Thatcher got into power. She realised that she had to have the full Civil Service on her side to make the changes that were planned. The formulae that is used to work out the pensions was changed to one formulae for the CS & a different one for the private sector and you can guess who had the best one. That is why the police knocked hell out of the miners. This allowed them to retire at 52 and after 5 or 6 years later they were picking up nearly the salary that they had the year they retired. You can learn a lot when the party that you have been invited to drunk a lot of bottles of wine.

I can only say that the Panorama said that was so.

Finally, what has moral responsibility got to do with governments and who are elected. Honestly I am on your side.

Malcolm.

G'day Malcolm,

I wonder why that we never hear the other side of the reasons why that folk who decide to leave the UK when their work life has completed to live in an other country.

We left before I went on the pension.

You have addressed the end of my email but not the start of it. As I explained in my email to Colin, service pensions have first to be paid into UK bank and UK tax has paid on it.

Is a 'service pension' the same as the aged pension?

However I do not know whether MPs have an extra perk that the rest do not.

Yes they do….and retired civil servants.

In my early 40s the BBC program Panorama spent the whole episode explaining why that folk who emigrated to countries like Aus, NZ & Canada etc would only receive there pension they were entitled to when they left UK.

That is correct and so it should be.

Apparently, there was a lot of folk had planned to join their sons or daughters in Aus etc who had emigrated in the 50s and naturally they wanted to spend the rest of their life with them.

Correct.

They were all told that they would never receive any increases. So everybody knew the score. You either stayed in UK or you went to live in a place that you thought was nicer.

Not so. I was not informed of that fact. I didn't discover it until many years after we had been in Australia.

The accountants of the Government had worked out that a lot of the pensions folk received in UK ends back in the Governments purse or keeping UK businesses alive. So, Money spent in the UK carries circulating in the UK. Not in a far away country.

That has nothing to do with our complaint other than to comment thus. If we all 'Frozen Pensioners' came back to live in the UK, there would be a huge problem. Our health needs are not being met by the UK Govt.

There is a moral responsibility here.

I was always told that the compulsory removal of money from my wages was so that I would get a pension upon my retirement.

By not keeping up with the increases they are stealing part of my pension.

Please spend some time reading this web site.

You should be better informed then.

ooroo
