    Welfare expenditure

There is very little correlation between economic performance and
welfare expenditure.^[31]
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welfare_state#cite_note-atkinson1995-30>

The table does not show the effect of expenditure on income
inequalities, and does not encompass some other forms of welfare
provision (such as occupational welfare
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occupational_welfare>).

The table below shows, first, welfare expenditure as a percentage of GDP
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gross_domestic_product> for some
(selected) OECD
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organisation_for_Economic_Co-operation_and_Development>
member states, with and without public education,^[32]
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welfare_state#cite_note-Barr-31> and
second, GDP per capita (PPP
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purchasing_power_parity> US$
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Dollar>) in 2001:

Nation 	Welfare expenditure
(% of GDP)
