The ABC News TV this afternoon was showing the broadcast of Parliament at the start of Question Time.

The Prime Minister stood up and spoke about the memorial and that there had been 10,000 Aussie sevicemen serving in Bomber Command. She mentioned that there was a BC Vet sitting up inthe Speakers Gallery as an "Homoured Guest". When she had finished the Leader of the Opposition also spoke.

When the seakers had finished there was a big round of applause from all the Parlimentarians in the House. This is not a common occurence in the House.

Then the Education Minsiter, Peter Garrett (He of Midnight Oil fame), gave a speech about the memorial being opened this weekend at The Australian War Memorial to remember those killed in the largest maritime losss of life in Australia's history. the loss of the Japanese ship, The "Montevideo Maru", sunk during the war by an American submarine during the war in the Pacific.
