Not so you'd notice from the TV coverage of HM's visit to Glasgow today, she went to Greenock afterwards to open some multi million pound desecration of Greenock's Municipal Buildings. My wife slotted that in after a quick trip to IKEA, but I stayed home, feeling the sight of wall to wall police would do my head in. I recall her visit to the area in 1958 when I was home from BI on study leave for my 2nd's ticket. The Royal train parked on the old Wemyss Bay line (now a bike track) and she spent the night on it without massed helicopters, etc. My mother roused me from my studies next day in time for me to see the tail end of the motorcade (3 or 4 cars) going up the A743 to Kilmacolm.
As was his regular habit, the husband of a friend took his dog this afternoon to the Battery Park, on the riverside some couple of miles west of the locus of the Royal visit. He was accosted by some security guards who ordered him to remove his dog from the park on the grounds that the Queen was visiting. He told them to go eff themselves, and they departed.
Hugh.
