    Texas doctor accused of record $350M Medicare fraud scam

    A Dallas-area physician has been arrested and indicted for allegedly bilking Medicare of more than $350 million for bogus health care services.

    The federal indictment charges that Dr. Jacques Roy of Rockwall, Texas, had also created a fake identity and sent money offshore with intentions to flee the country.

    The indictment charges that Roy "engaged in a staggering and long-running fraud scheme," billing Medicare for more than $350 million and Medicaid for more than $24 million on behalf of 11,000 purported beneficiaries.

    Six others were indicted for involvement in the alleged scheme involving fradulent claims.

    Prosecutors charge that the the scheme involved sending people door-to-door to sign up patient for home health care, then billing those patients himself for unnecessary services.

    In another alleged scam, recruiters would canvass homeless shelters for people with Medicare benefits and direct them to a vehicle parked nearby for "treatment" or examine patients at a courtyard picnic table.
