Six people between the ages of 13 and 19 were shot Monday night in Marrero, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said.
JPSO began receiving reports of gunfire on Sayers Drive near Constantine Drive around 8:20 p.m., said Col. John N. Fortunato, a sheriff's office spokesman.
The victims, all male, were found at various addresses on Sayers, Fortunato said in a press release.
The 13-year-old was shot multiple times and was transported to University Hospital where his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, Fortunato said, citing physicians.
One victim was from Harvey, while the others are from Marrero. In addition to the 13-year-old Marrero boy, the victims were two 16-year-olds, a 17-year-old, an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old.
They were standing near the corner of Sayers and Constantine waiting for a ride when shots rang out, the spokesman said. The victims started running on on Sayers Drive and the shooters continued pursuing and shooting at them, Fortunato said.
The victims did not remember seeing a vehicle, and could not identify the shooters, he said. However, one witness reported seeing a black vehicle speeding away from the area.
Crimes scene technicians collected a "substantial amount" of spent AK-47 shell casings, along with a number of spent .45 Cal and .9MM shell casings, Fortunato said.
Homicide Detective Matt Vasquez is investigating but has no known suspects or a motive.
