Mike,

The actual signs, sans words, will probably be the same all over Europe, but
I'm unaware of any requirement for words to be in English, especially in
"motorway" gantry messages. In any case, why would a poor command of English
be a barrier to driving in mainland Europe?  In Malta, most road signs I saw
were in English and Maltese - and very polite : "Please choose your lane",
as compared with "Get in lane, you bastard!"  Older signs were in Maltese.
