The following is a telling comment on the state of affairs in the USA.

it refers to the indictment of a local politician [longtime mayor then parish president] and his cohorts but applies to politicians in general.

Something happens when someone is elected to office or is appointed to high office. They are washed in an euphoria that they are different from us they are sworn to serve. And that distorted sense of self is manifested in their expectation, if not demand, of being treated differently and specially. They seek special unique pensions plans, expense accounts, cars, trips to exotic places under the guise of "fact finding", free dinners(lunches, too) and now enrollments in special schools. Where does it end? It probably won't.

Our Founding Fathers recognized this defect in the human being. While we eschew royalty,we want to be treated royally. That is why our Founding documents have safeguards enshrined to prevent any of use to get crown-happy. But, our primordial hardwiring drives some to conceal their lust for a crown by claiming the are called to "public service". And we fall for it every election day.

I was amused, and that probably isn't the correct word, when I watched the news last night and heard how many public officials are going to the SUPER BOWL to FACT FIND. I laughed when I heard that our great police chief had to go to Indianapolis to see how they handle crowds and special events. Really?

Think about that for a minute.

I applaud the Feds for what they are doing. Besides locking these cretins up, they are exposing a very sad side of those among us who seek the scepter and crown. Perhaps we need to reprise the guillotine, for it had a way of tempering the purple blood of royalty.
