[BITList] White Christmas

Frank,

Christmas wasn't a statute holiday in Scotland till the 1970s, though it had been an unofficial one for many years before that. The first Christmas Day I ever worked was 1956, on Chakdara, en-route for Capetown.

White Christmases are in the laps of the gods, but we had 2" of the stuff on Monday night late, then it thawed, and it is now 2" of knobbly frozen slush. The roads are all gritted and clear, but the pavements are hell. People are walking on the roads, and cars just have to give way. I've considered writing to the council to ask who to sue, should I fall and break something.

Hugh.
