New Orleans' murder rate climbed to 62 Monday after the death of a 3-month-old girl was ruled a homicide and a woman was found fatally shot in a secluded part of eastern New Orleans in separate incidents.

The deaths were two of nine incidents in which 11 people were killed or injured during the weekend, according to police logs.

An autopsy found that Rynjae Lashell Mitchell died from blunt force trauma to her abdomen and chest and also had injuries to her head and face, said John Gagliano, the coroner's chief investigator. After an autopsy, the death was ruled a homicide.

Police responding to a call from a home in the 4600 block of Flake Avenue in eastern New Orleans about 3:45 a.m. Sunday found the infant unresponsive, said officer Garry Flot, a police spokesman.

Paramedics rushed Rynjae to Tulane University Medical center, where she was pronounced dead about 4:40 a.m., Gagliano said.

Additional details were not immediately available, Flot said. No arrests have been made.

Early Monday, police opened an investigation into the death of a woman whose body was discovered in Village de l'Est. The woman, whose age and identity are unknown, was found shortly before 7 a.m. Monday in the 5000 block of Alcee Fortier Boulevard, police said.

The New Orleans police news release stated that "a transient" person stumbled across the body this morning and reported it to police. The woman was found lying face down and had multiple gunshot wounds to her body.

The woman, who appears to be in her 20s or 30s, is African-American, 5-foot-7 tall and 208 pounds, according to the Orleans Parish coroner's office.

She has black hair and was found wearing a red tank top, blue jean shorts, and red and gray sneakers. She also wore pearl earrings and a purple plastic wrist watch.

Anyone with information about the woman's identity should contact the coroner's office at 504.658.9660.

Meanwhile, a man who was fatally wounded inside a Village de l'Est nightclub early Sunday has been identified.

Jose Zelaya-Guillen, 26, of New Orleans was shot about 6:30 a.m. in the Mimosa Dancing Club in the 4600 block of Michoud Boulevard.

Police arrested Marcos Tulio Montes, 25, and booked him with second-degree murder. According to authorities, Montes said the shooting stemmed from an argument between the men two months ago at the same club.
