Pebble Watch for iPhone and Android, The Most Successful Kickstarter Project Ever
              http://vimeo.com/pebble/kickstarter
The Pebble, is a watch with an e-paper screen that runs apps from your iPhone or Android device. In its first three days on Kickstarter, the project has attracted 18,867 backers and raised $2,656,389, of their initial $100,000 goal for putting the watch into production. So far, The highest grossing Kickstarter project ever raised $3 million in 60 days, so the Pebble is positively off the charts.

There are a lot of factors driving the success of this project:

Proven track record: Eric Migicovsky and his team “have been designing smartwatches for 3 years. Their first product was the inPulse smartwatch for Blackberry. inPulse has been covered by Engadget, The Verge, Gizmodo, NYTimes and more,” according to the listing.

Incredibly Useful Product: Smartphones have gotten increasingly bogged down with apps. Some of the most useful things are the simplest, but it’s hard to sort them out among all the clutter on your phone. The Pebble enables you to pull little bits of functionality—a gps powered odometer for your bike, text message alerts, and, of course, the time of day—out onto your wrist where you can see it whatever you’re doing.

Works with the Right Devices: The inPulse is cool, but Blackberry, as we all know, is going away. Coming out with a product that works well with both iPhone and Android makes it very easy to feel that you’re future-proofed (at least for the near future).

Great Deal: To be a backer is really to place a pre-order at a discounted price. And to know you will be one of the first people to have this piece of the shiny and new.

It Gets Better: As they have raised more money the team has added features to their original spec that makes the product even more appealing: The Pebble will now be waterproof and there will be an open developers SDK for creating your own apps.

In less than three minutes of video, Migicovsky lays out this case with the inevitability of an Apple product launch (without the turtleneck!). He has, in fact, demonstrated a believable new category of devices, the smartphone accessory. Next up, cuff links?
