As a lad, even I was aware of the fame of the Nawab of Pataudi, so probably the father. The comments on his struggle to adjust to having only the one eye remind me that, in curling, a one eye technique is often practiced.  There is a simple test (can't recall the details) to establish the dominant eye, and the stone is aimed using that eye, with the other closed, giving greater accuracy.
