We get cold calling the odd time, but nothing to speak of - almost always linked to some marvellous benefit (free new kitchen, etc, if you let us advertise it on the front of your house for 6 months) they are going to confer on houseowners, a category to which I don't belong, or so I tell them, and off they go with an apology. The message on 1471 is almost always "The caller  withheld their number." This denotes a UK source call - our daughter works for the MOD and, if she phones us from her office, we hear the same message. We also hear it from friends who have opted for unlisted phone numbers.  Nothing sinister.  One group of Indian master criminals leave their phone number behind when they call about "faults" on the computer I tell them I haven't got, but, the above apart, there are no numbers to bar, even if I were to find the procedure in the labyrinth of "how to".
