I’m like you, hugh

agree, wines and whiskies have their clear tastes, but I don’t get the flowery and wide ranging tastes and smells the ‘experts’ experience and trot out...

Colin,

I once had a glass or two of an Australian red wine my brother-in-law had been given as a Christmas bung by some rep or other. All of the tastes beloved of the wine writers were there - chocolate, vanilla, and God knows what else - but neither he nor I can recall what wine it was. That apart, red wines and whiskies all tend to taste pretty much the same to me. This may have something to do (and I've mentioned this before) with the lack of salivary enzyme in my saliva. I understand that lack can affect the sense of taste a bit. The lack long predates the Aussie wine, and I cannot explain why it tasted that way.

Hugh.
