I don't rate her all that highly as a classical singer - this despite her having been brought up on a "tough council estate". I have lived in council estates on and off since 1946, but we were never told their degree of toughness - maybe they were genteel, who knows.  If I ever become famous, no doubt they'll have been tough - really tough and gritty, it being the West of Scotland after all.

And can anyone say to what or to whom she was talking in this bit?
