yo malcolm

I have lived in >35 abodes all over the world – google earth is spot on with every one, . as well as the many hundreds of other addresses I have looked up

last week I was looking at a school friends house in york; I have never been to the house, yet using google street view I could see her front door was blue, I could easily read the number on the front door, I could see there are white lace curtains at the windows, there was a nice yellow privet hedge [needed trimming] and there was a fine hydrangea in the front garden. additionally I could see the colour and make of her car – I could see the yellow number plate but the number is blurred out.

I can clearly see the house in lee-on-solent, hampshire where #1 son was born, including the number on the gate. The gold fish pond in the back yard which I cleaned out is no longer there.

I can see the name and number on the apartment we lived in by the yacht harbour [Tr. Akti Moutsopoulou] in Piraeus, Greece.

The same thing for our apartment in Kobe, Japan – our balcony on the 5th floor is clearly visible.

Need I go on.

Of the millions and millions of buildings in the world, you and hugh have managed to find a couple of anomalies with the addresses.
to me that does not warrant labeling google earth not accurate – quite the opposite.

I was under the impression that google earth is satellite photograph based – could it be that the photographs are not accurate?

Colin,

I have two relatives, one in Gloucester and one in Warrington and neither of them are not where their homes are correctly shown.

hugh

there are millions and millions of addresses in google earth, you have found a couple are not correct, ergo google earth is not an accurate tool!.

The laddy doth protest too much, methinks.

I use it daily, have looked up addresses all over the world [including scotland] and am more than happy with the accuracy there of.

John/Colin,

I agree that you should be suspicious about strange requests for access, and that the one in question is best left alone, but Google Earth is not an accurate tool for locating an address. A request for my own address gives a house on a different street, a couple of hundred yards away. For a reason known only to they who laid it out c1966, our "street" is shaped like a comb with 4 teeth - the teeth are pedestrian only, joined to the "handle" by stairs.

Hugh.
