Thursday,
Frank,
I haven't yet investigated the beer link. My purpose in sending this is to explain my absence of a few days. On the 23rd, my PC refused to boot up, and a corrupted operating system was diagnosed by the place I use for such matters, so I left it with them. Next day, they said the master hard drive was kaput, and quoted £120 for a jury rig sort of solution with no guarantees the saem wouldn't happen again. The PC had been having instability problems for a few weeks, and I saw no reason to doubt their opinion - not only was it old, it was SLOW. While I was mulling over this, one of them had a brainwave and offered me a reconditioned DELL for £150, plus £15 to recover what they could from the HD on the other machine. This I accepted. So this afternoon I have a machine approx 4 times faster than the other, with (as far as I can see), all of my files recovered. They threw in an optical mouse and a USB keyboard, these being needed for the DELL. So, it's back to the 63 emails.
Hugh.
