Mike,

That's an impressive collection of stuff - our statue is not in the
same league.  I recall horses all dressed up overall with ribbons in their manes, etc, so there must have been parades of some kind. For a period in its history, Port Glasgow was the premier customs port in Scotland, so I'd guess the place was stiff with Clydesdales and carts at that time.  Bugger all left of it now, bar what's in the mind of the likes of me.
