Ron,

I was talking only of this area, Port Glasgow, Gourock and Greenock, in which all of the industries listed by me flourished at one time - indeed, with the exception of computers (IBM, late), and brewing (early), they coexisted.  Mamalade is a serious omission, I agree, but there is no trace of a jam factory here. In its early days, Port Glasgow was famed for its fruit, but nobody ever made jam out of it.  I am related to the Scotts of Carluke whose firm still makes jam and marmalade, though it's no longer controlled by the family.
