By far the most entertaining and instructive way to print symbols is to use Symbols from the Insert menu.  Not accessible from the email menu, however. What seems to be emerging from this discussion is that the variety to be found in keyboards is an annoyance.  There are at least 6 duplicated keys, and some that are redundant, on the RHS of the keyboard.  Why don't they extend the typeface key area in that direction?
