Colin,
As you say there are defined Routes on both sides of the Strait, the main problem is crossing traffic, entering/leaving Gib Bay with the busy port of Algeciras on the W.side of the Bay.
East bound,the route is on the S. side. West bound, on the N. side of the Straits.
