At least 10 people were shot in New Orleans during a weekend that saw a toddler killed, another child injured by bullets and a man treated for a gunshot wound after he tried to flee a kidnapping.

Details of the mayhem between Friday morning and Sunday night were included in incident logs released Monday by the New Orleans Police Department.

The first shooting happened Friday at 10:49 a.m. in Gert Town.

A 22-year-old man was walking in the 7800 block of Olive Street when an unknown man with a cover over his face approached. The suspect began to curse at the victim before he pulled out a revolver and shot the victim in his left foot.

About an hour later, a 17-year-old was shot to death in the parking lot of an apartment building in the 2300 block of Lafitte Street, at the site of the former Lafitte public housing development. Paramedics pronounced Corey Thompson dead on the scene about 11:55 a.m.

The next shooting was across town. A 34-year-old man was shot in his car along Gentilly Boulevard about 1:30 p.m., police said. The man drove himself to the 3500 block of St. Ferdinand Street, where police found him injured. No information about his condition was available Monday.

In one of the more unusual incidents, a 28-year-old man was shot on Interstate 10 as he tried to escape a kidnapping.

Police said the victim was at his house when an unknown man forced him inside a car about 8:30 p.m. While driving west on I-10, the victim bailed out of the car near the Orleans Avenue exit, at which point the suspect fired a gun, striking him in the leg.

Doctors at Interim LSU Public Hospital treated the victim's wound. No other information was available Monday.

On Saturday, just before 12:30 p.m., a 59-year-old man was shot while he ate lunch in the 7700 block of South Coronet Court in eastern New Orleans.

Police said four people walked up to the man; at least one opened fire and hit the victim in the left shoulder. One bullet went through the victim's right leg and pierced his left leg, police said. The suspects fled.

Sunday's violence began about 3:15 p.m. when a 9-year-old boy was shot in the back while caught in the crossfire during a shooting in eastern New Orleans.

Police said the boy and other children were playing in the 6900 block of Salem Drive when a man standing alongside an abandoned house began to fire at a passing gold Pontiac with two men inside.

The men inside opened fire, and the boy was hit, police said. The men sped away, and the boy was listed in stable condition at a local hospital.

Two-year-old Keira Holmes died and 19-year-old Emmett Allen was injured in a similar fashion when they were caught in the crossfire during a shooting about 4:30 p.m. in the 3300 block of Erato Street.

An early investigation revealed that Allen was walking in the area when gunmen in two vehicles began to fire at him. The man ran into a courtyard where children played; the gunmen continued to fire, striking the toddler in the head.

Keira died a short time later at a local hospital.

Police are looking for a white SUV and a grey Honda or Acura that might be related to this incident.

The weekend's final shooting left a 34-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman injured Sunday just after 7 p.m.

The victims were standing in the 1200 block of Tupelo Street in the Lower 9th Ward when an unknown person shot them. No information on the victims' conditions were available Monday.
