The relevant para from the statement by the First Sea Lord which the Channel4 ‘journalist?’ apparently did not understand [no surprise there], reads “The review has confirmed the Government’s continuing commitment to the Queen Elizabeth Class Carriers with the intention to build 2 and operate 1 of these 65,000 ton vessels. The decision to invest in the more capable, Carrier Variant of the Joint Combat Aircraft is especially welcome, converting carriers to ‘cats and traps’ ensures the relevance, utility, interoperability and through-life adaptability of the Carrier Strike capability. Likewise, the decision to procure the Carrier Variant  of the aircraft, rather than the land-based variant ensures the emphasis on their being utilised from the sea.”

Colin,

Converted could mean anything.  The article talks about "assembling" the vessel, "piecing it together", so God alone knows about "conversion".  I hope they've enough decent shipwrights and welders to do the alignment. Lithgows used to do it afloat, using cofferdams, but that was then, this is now.
