Yes, indeed, Mike - Dave Allen was always worth watching, yet he didn't do anything spectacular.  It was all underplayed.

The union rep in the Odense Staalskibsvaerft, when I was there 1965-67, was an elderly, baby-faced gent who had been in the Danish Resistance.  One day in the 40s he was driving a cart with a cargo of eggs, with some boxes of hand grenades underneath.  He was stopped by a couple of Germans who demanded to know what he was carrying. Being young and nervous, he blurted out, "Hand grenades".  They thought it the best joke they'd heard in a while, and threw a couple of eggs in the air to illustrate.  "Danish hand grenades - what a laugh! Now bugger off."  Which he did.
