Colin,

This Anna Nicole Smith woman - clearly the US papers deem her newsworthy for more than her chest measurement - is she on trial for (a) selling these pills to others, (b) hoarding them, (c) taking them ? (d) operating machinery while/after taking them ?  I don't know what the world record is for pill taking, but I'd believe she holds it, if (c) is the case.  My granddaughter is studying for a degree in Psychology - somewhere in one of her giant textbooks there might be an article on the matter by a man with a hyphenated German name.

If we want to pick up a prescription at the chemist, most often we have to stand aside while some gaunt ponce, having tied up his bull terrier to a lamppost outside, advances to the head of the queue for his glass of Methadone.  Recently, my wife was entertained in the Post Office queue by another of the same who long and loudly demanded his "alcohol allowance" (50 bloody quid) from the woman attending to him.  The allowance, though he was entitled to it, wasn't listed on the form authorising payment, so he wasn't getting it.  Meantime my wife and others had to wait till the police arrived and ejected him.

I'm all for other people setting out to take these substances if (and only if) they first sign a waiver to the effect that I am not obliged to lift them out of the gutter whenever I pass them lying there, or contribute to a charity that organises assistance for them. If they can't see the effects on others who have preceded them, that should be their business, unless (a) or (d) apply.
