The bastards are all at it.  A neighbour once was faced with a bill for smoke damage after something combusted in his kitchen.  The insurers claimed it was smoke without fire and declined to pay up on the grounds they had insured him against fire.  I wrote him a letter - he copied it and sent it off.  They paid up.  It doesn't do to be timid.
