Surely it was written by a Glaswegian.  Either a totally jaundiced Glaswegian, or one lacking a sense of when to stop once the rather feeble irony has made whatever point he/she intended.  On the other hand, it could have come from Edinburgh.  It's too literate to have come from one of the strange websites inhabited by yoofs wot canny spel or rite anyfing egsxep sware wurds, like.  The trouble with this sort of thing is that there are people out there who believe it. There was another such going around a few years back, involving an earthquake in this town (other versions had other towns).  However, it was funny, and the humour was well paced, eg, people having been wakened even before their Giro (benefit money) had arrived. Up to £8 worth of damage having been caused in the town, and collections of burned out cars destroyed.  We were asked to contribute £1, enough to buy ball point pens for filling in forms.
