      2 shootings, 1 fatal, mark violent night in the French Quarter

      New Orleans police are investigating two shootings, the second of which was fatal, in the French Quarter early Monday morning.


      Police responded to a call about 6:30 a.m. at the corner of Burgundy and St. Louis streets where they found a dead body, according to Officer Shereese Harper, police spokeswoman. No further details, including the sex of the victim, were immediately available.

      Officers are also looking for the suspect in an earlier incident that left a 20-year-old man shot in the head, according to Harper.

      Officers were breaking up a fight when the shots were fired around 1 a.m. in the 100 block of Bourbon Street. The victim, whose name has not yet been released, was brought to Interim LSU Public Hospital and is listed in stable condition, Harper said.
