Mike,

The other day these people were referring to BOPs as safety valves, now they've found a picture book. God save us from the ignorant ! They are not bloody valves, and they are a good deal bigger than a double-decker bus.  To a great extent, the drillships I worked on were designed round two things - the quantity of casing to be carried for the likely water depth, drill string for the drilling depth, and the BOP.
