Many thanks for the account, as close to first hand as we're ever going to see.  The mud he mentions will be drilling mud - I seem to recall that stuff being pumped at 2400 bar or thereabouts.  I'd guess there was a sudden and violent blowout of gas that displaced the 5,000+ feet of mud upwards equally violently.  Your informant says the drill floor "disappeared" - I guess it would.
