Mike,

It certainly worked with a small amount of unspecified oil in a basin.  I'd guess enormous quantities of straw would soak up a lot of surface oil, but what do we do with enormous quantities of oily straw floating where the oil was? never mind the rest of the oil  Maybe Kevin Costner would have a brain wave about that.  I note the advert for OW Separators alongside the video.
