I had teachers who used the tawse (on the hand), and those who didn't.  Regardless of that, most were excellent teachers.  A few were competent -  I don't recall ever having had a less than competent teacher.  What are these "grades" that can be changed in a couple of weeks?  I was only ever assessed at the end of a school term - my School Record shows 10 in primary school and 9 in high school.
