Since the decision not to allow the Grand Match to take place on the Lake of Menteith, more people have been on the lake than would have been there during the Match, many of them curling. Wellnigh every accessible frozen sheet of water in Scotland has seen curling. Today's Herald has a few trenchant comments from people with commonsense, one of them pointing to the farce at Lochmaben, where police were called to warn curlers and skaters off the ice (quoting what law, I wonder?).  The police called the Nith rescue boat to assist them (I don't know either), but the rescue people declined to go onto the ice for elfin safety reasons.  You couldn't make it up.
