I used both systems at school.  At work, Kincaid were totally metric, and I had to adapt to imperial at evening classes.  Scotts were a mixture. In Europe both systems coexist, or used to. In Denmark they were totally metric as far as shipbuilding was concerned, but in shops one asked for a pund of hakke-boeuf (mince), not a halv-kilo, though a halv-kilo was what one got.  At work, a metric 50mm pipe was "to tommer" (two inch).  Nobody got over-excited about it.
