well, mike

as you know, americans love their guns [all 87,000,000 of 'em,]. and they love to tell politicians, etc. that they have a RIGHT to bear arms. they love their RIGHTS.

a crazy story was put out by the advocates of guns before obama was elected, that if he was elected, blacks would go wild in the streets and generally run amok.  consequently, usually normal white people decided they had to protect themselves [and their families - don't forget them] from the madding crowd/s.  I had acquaintances of mine who were convinced this would actually happen - that's how fucked up yanks are!

this was written in Time :- "Americans are afraid of this economy. As a result, they're getting locked and loaded. To wit: Jacquita Baker, a soft-spoken single mother from Kentwood, Mich., near Grand Rapids. She works as an administrative assistant at the Grand Rapids Urban League and is studying criminal justice at a local university. As of Monday, she's the proud owner of a shotgun. Why bear arms now? "The economy played a large part in my decision," says Baker, 27. "When people don't have jobs, they might go breaking into people's homes. I want to be safe in my home.".

we knew americans were fairly stupid people, but it amazes me how easily the average joe can be freaked out by rumour-mongers. they remind me of headless chicken running hither and thither! 
there seems to be nothing that they will not believe, regardless of how ridiculous it is!
