Robbo,

A true eccentric, or daft as a brush - who knows which, maybe both, certainly very brave. But something puzzles me, and the article doesn't give me any hints. It says - "Born in Hong Kong to English parents and educated at King William's College on the Isle of Man." So, from whence came the bagpipes and claymore? It's like an episode I saw a few years ago on TV, in which the main character is an English detective who had never shown the slightest inclination to do anything Scottish. At the start of the episode he is summoned urgently and turns up in full Highland rig - kilt, sporran and fancy accoutrements. Nothing in the script gave the slightest clue as to why he was so attired. I was told by a playwright that, if there is a dagger on a table in Act 1, it must be used by Act 3. That is an invariable rule, he said, but clearly not.

Hugh.
