Colin,

It's amazing how vulnerable some things are, and not only the Ipad. I remember in Kincaids how vulnerable an IBM keyboard was to having a cup of coffee knocked over it. Extreme measures had to brought into play, and thereafter it was forbidden to spill coffee (also tea, though that hadn't done the damage) over an IBM keyboard.  Dad's car (a DAF44) reacted poorly to a wheeled compressor running into the side of it one morning when he was on his way to work.  Not only dented, but the transmission shunted 10mm to one side, causing me endless trouble when he gave to car to me.  I recommended he buy a make of car that compressors wouldn't run into, or could run into with no damage. He ignored my advice.
