Subject: [BITList] Engineers' Lunch

Friday afternoon,

The 2009 Engineers' Lunch in the Ramada Hotel, Glasgow, went very well indeed yesterday, though on a sad note there are 11 members deceased since last year's lunch. The membership is only 2 down, since 9 joined over the year. I had a pint of lager before the meal, half a bottle of wine during the meal, a Drambuie after the meal, and a very large whisky Malcolm Henderson sent over to me. A curious mixture, but I felt fine and remembered to take my coat when I left, unlike at the Campanile the night before, when I had a pint and a half pint with James Slater, Fred Waddington and others. I dashed back and made the train by seconds. I actually met a chap I sailed with - Norman Winder, one of the new 9. I last saw Norman when he left Chakdara in 1957, bound for the Rajula. Myself, Norman and Sandy Souter joined Chakdara on the same day with about 8 weeks experience between us, gained on a motionless Uganda in RA Docks. Ernie Elrick was 2E/O, and what he did to deserve the three of us I never learned, but we survived.

Hugh.
