[BITList] Its easy - in Bangladesh

They could have thrown them ashore to him much easier, instead of undulging
in Olympic standard balancing acts. Last night on UK Channel 5 there was an
episode of Warship. HMS Bulwark had sailed to Balgladesh for exercises with
and without the Bangladeshi military. Near the shore, as per design, the
stern was ballasted down, the stern door (back door, according to the
script) opened, and the sea allowed to flood in. Sundry small craft then
sailed out and shorewards carrying Marines armed with guns firing blanks.
Cue concerns about the effect of the heavily polluted water on the ship -
the sea around them stinks. A short time later, cue concerns about the
effect of polluted water on the filters of the reverse osmosis potable water
system - not enough spares carried to keep up with the rate of blocking and
contamination. Showers banned and clothes washing heavily curtailed. Keep
fit exercises on deck in extreme temperatures are still mandatory, so ship
is full of sweaty people with a grudge. Vessel goes back out to sea to allow
fresh water to be made against the return of the Marines who have defeated
an enemy force consisting of volunteers from the crew. Quarantine procedures
are set up for the return of the exercise party who are covered in stinking
glaur and carrying God knows what lethal bacteria. Given the amount of
surprise expressed by senior officers, it was apparent they were ill
prepared for the state of the water. It's nice to know our money is not
being wasted on advance preparation.

Hugh.
