The dog breeds that cost most in vet bills

Poorly dogs can cost their owners a fortune. Breaking a leg will cost on average £560 to fix, whilst ongoing treatment for diabetes costs £1,146, according to esure, the insurer.

Despite such high vet bills, only one third of dog owners have pet insurance.

Sickness and injury can affect any breed of dog - but which dogs are most likely to incur hefty vet bills? Esure, the insurance company, compiled this list based on the number of claims they receive.
