I doubt if a young lad in our area has thrown a stick at a chestnut tree for at least 3 generations. I recall when it was mandatory, like annoying bad tempered old ladies. The trees are still there, only bigger - and they were enormous when I wor a lad - but the lore has not been passed on.  Now, they whine nasal imitations of dismal pop songs while clutching a mobile phone in one hand and a bottle of juice in the other.
