The old routine takes me back to a day when films didn't have much in the way of explosions, but mostly had plots. They refined that routine for their stage (and TV) act.  One of the links alongside it is to the 5 times 5 equals 14 routine of Ma and Pa Kettle. Two or three comments caught my eye. One reckoned it was stolen from Abbot and Costello, another claimed it was older than that.  A third agreed, and as proof cited her mother's "old VHS tapes."  I well remember my own mother's old VHS tapes - back in the 40s they were a godsend for keeping up morale, as they no doubt were during WW1 for my grannie.  There are people out there I hope are not in charge of anything important.
