Thanks Hugh for passing Freds' message along .

The machine shop where I did my lathe time had been furnished with up
to date machines , twice ,
First in WW 1 and again in WW2 .
The lathes I faced were powered by overhead shafts and pulleys .
Most made gear changes by tripping the drive belt from pulley to pulley .
Belt flop and belt goop were part of everyday life .
Still have a flattened little finger from the time I was setting a job
and squashed it between the pulley and belt

I blame those years , apprentice and BI for inhaled asbestos .
Recent tests have shown 3 or 4 spots in each lung .
By the time it becomes a problem I won't be using the lungs .
My GP is very cluey and specialists are not overly conserned .
and if it wasn't for the tests I wouldn't know I had it .

The bush fires are well away from here .
Queensland had the floods which were not
reported in overseas press and media
.67% of the State was under water.
A split picture cartoon in a local paper showed two people and their house
The first had a couple saying the fires were the last straw and were
moving to Queensland
the other showed a similar couple sitting on the roof above the flood
saying this is the limit We are moving to Vi ctoria
Sadly there were 210 fire deaths in Victoria and only one with the flood .
On the other hand cattle losses were huge .

Cheers
