Dave,

1. How many times a week to eat chocolate is just pick a number from 1 to 9, inclusive. (Number = x)
2. Multiply it by 2. (2x)
3. Add 5. (2x + 5)
4. Multiply by 50. (50(2x + 5) = 100x + 250)
5. Add 1758 or 1759. (100x + 2008) or (100x + 2009)

If you subtract your year of birth from 2008/2009, you get your age.

100x is just 100 times your first number. Since it was a 1-digit number, 100x is a 3-digit number and, not surprisingly, it is 100, 200, 300, etc, with your original number at the front.

Adding it all together changes nothing, but confuses the audience.

2009 is the only year it will work for adding on 1758 or 1759. Next year add on 1760 or 1761.

Hugh.
